Integration Camp 2006

so, about the camp. the 4 days were packed with so much activities & incidents. hence, i'm only gonna touch on a few things.

it's called the 4PM Intergration Camp 2006, and it's in its 6th running year. 4PM stands for Persatuan Persuratan Pemuda-Pemudi Melayu, or Malay Youth Literary Association. this year, the camp was held at the Old Police Academy at Thomson Road. most of the campers were Malays with only a handful of non-Malays.

when piz and i first reached the campsite and saw the other campers, both of us felt awkward. oh so awkward. partly because we didn't know what to expect from the camp. the other part, we'd rather not talk about. for the first time at a camp, i couldn't wait for it to be over before it even started! the camp had also meant 4 days without make-up and hairstyling products for most of us. well done, fiza. 4 days of total unglamness, oversized tshirts, track pants & shorts. that's good actually, 'cause then everybody got to know each other's TRUE personality. eyebags and all.

we slept in bunks, and our bunk was facing the forest. there were alot of frogs. and one decided to station itself right outside our door. but i think we were to tired to bother so we just walked past it. the girls' toilet required us to walk far out of the bunk's premises and down a hill far at back of the Old Police Academy. exciting much? what with all the stories we heard. but hey, everyone got used to it by the second day that by the 3rd night when everybody had to stay up really late for the Project Challenge, a bunk mate and i were unfazed by the fact that it was freaking 4am and we walked all the way to the toilet to have our shower. did i fail to mention there were only 2 toilets & 2 showers for 20 plus girls?

by the last day, every group developed such a tight bond. my group was called KARMA and we kept doing our cheer everytime an opportunity arised. yours truly was damn enthusiastic as ever lor. i couldn't help it okay, i'm just naturally enthusiastic & energetic and i love camps!

the last day had also been the day when the VIPs had to attend the official closing ceremony for the camp. An MP or minister was there, the President of 4PM was there and the MEDIA was there. Yours truly had to be interviewed by RSI (Radio Singapore International) in Malay okay? oh God, oh God. GOD knows what shitloads came out of my mouth. oh hell, at least i made the minister person laugh during my brief presentation. and everyone else had to laugh along. hurhur.

and yours truly was "Best Female Camper" lor! weeeee. thanks to my tak-tahu-malu-ness. and piz's group was in the Top 5 for the Project Challenge so they had to present their project to the VIPs on stage. Go Piz!

at the last few hours of the camp, i could sense that everyone dreaded the goodbyes. even me! there was a brief sing-along session at the last few minutes of the camp where most started breaking down in tears. the commitee, the facilitators & the campers. yep, even the guys. even piz & i couldn't fight abit of tears. okay lah, me lah. damn. what was touching though, was how much of a positive impact it made on the campers that most signed up as volunteers.

i'm glad Mrs Seetoh made us go to the camp =>

the Project Challenge got everyone so stressed up...

fiza, its 3 in the morning, quit snapping pictures already!

one of the games we played required us to put together & decorate a photo frame. lawa kan? =)
